On Wednesdays we share posts from people who have run or are training for a race at the Disney parks, love healthy living and Disney, or simply want to share their Healthy Disney Story. If you’d like to share your story, please submit your story through our contact form. We’d love to hear from you.
This week’s guest, Lindsay Ingalls, is training for her first half marathon, the Walt Disney World Half Marathon in January. Good luck, Lindsay!

What inspired you to run the Walt Disney World Half Marathon?
One of my dreams has always been to become a runner and run a half marathon.
Over the past few years I have gone through running phases but ultimately didn’t follow through, finding a million excuses of how life got in the way. Finally, this past February, my husband and I made a commitment that as soon as the weather got better we would start Couch to 5k (again), and we did in March.
This time it felt different - we were both more committed and quickly fell in love with running. We decided to get gym memberships so that we could always have access on a treadmill, so no excuses when it was too hot or too wet to run.
In May I would say that we officially caught the running bug and started looking into races. After doing some review and talking with Twitter friends about whether we could actually run a half marathon or not, we decided that we could and we would.
We then made a commitment to running when we signed up for the Disney Half Marathon on January 7, 2012 and at the same time our first 5k in Portland Maine on July 24, 2011.
What inspired you to run at Walt Disney World?
The decision to run the Walt Disney World Half Marathon was a result of my addiction to Disney. I love Disney World, grew up going there, and my husband and I even went there for our honeymoon, and again in 2009 for Christmas.
One of my “bucket list” items was to run a Disney World race, and what better time to do it than when it is freezing here in Vermont, right around Christmas time, and during my husband’s birthday? Since we were already planning a trip to Disney for 2012, it just worked out that we would go nine months earlier than we had planned.
How are you training for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon?
I am currently in pre-training for the race. I went back and forth between the Hal Higdon plan and the Jeff Galloway plan, and ultimately have decided (as of now) to do the Galloway plan, which is actually the recommended training plan on the runDisney site.
My official training begins August 30th and will go for 20 weeks. At the end of the 19th week I will run the half marathon, and the 20th week is a recovery week. In addition to doing the training plan I am planning to run a 4 miler in September and a 10k in October.
