WDW Marathon Weekend 2012: The Jeff Galloway Meet Up

January 11, 2012 · 8 comments

Inspired to book your next Disney trip after Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend? I highly recommend Mouse Fan Travel, who I used to book my October trip for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon.

I am back (sadly) from my long weekend to Walt Disney World. While writing recaps doesn’t cure the homesickness, it’ll be fun to share my thoughts on the weekend with you, and to get excited about planning another trip in the future.

On Friday morning I was invited to go to the Jeff Galloway Meet-Up at Hollywood Studios. The event began at 7:30am, when Jeff gave us a quick hello and pep talk before our 1.8 mile run-walk-run through the park.

We ran at 12-minute mile or so pace, running all over the park. (It reminded me of Wine and Dine. Only shorter. And in the daytime. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t so similar.) :)

Anyway, after the run we were brought into the Beauty and the Beast stage area to hear a bunch of speakers.

The first one was Jeff Galloway, who talked about how important it is to start conservatively with marathon training. And to avoid puking. Love it. (No puking is definitely a goal of mine, in running, and in life in general.)

Next up was Tony Horton of the P90X programs. He talked about eating whole foods (he recommends avoiding fat, sugar, salt, and chemicals), and showed us his six pack. Ha.

Jenna Morasca and Ethan Zohn, the couple from Survivor and Amazing Race spoke too, mostly about their experiences with long-distance running.

And a special event wouldn’t be complete without a visit from The Mouse himself. He’s so cute and ready to run, don’t you think?

And I got a few photos from some new and old friends…

To end the great morning, we got to take a ride on Tower of Terror in honor of the upcoming race this fall. We got to enter the attraction through a VIP door in the back. So cool.

It made me really want to sign up for this ten-miler night race on September 29th, so if I can, I’m pretty sure I’ll be there.

Thanks again to Bob Hitchcock and all of runDisney for inviting me to this event. Throughout the whole weekend my love for Disney and runDisney grew more and more, and I can’t wait to share with you the rest of the weekend.

Stay tuned tomorrow for a recap of the Walt Disney World Half Marathon!

I can’t believe how quickly it went by too! So sad. But yes, definitely good to hang out in the parks a few times.

And I’m already thinking about possibilities for my next trip too. We must discuss!

I’d love to participate in one of these meet-ups with Jeff Galloway someday. Hmmm, does he do meet-ups on the west coast or is it mainly WDW? I’ll have to keep an eye out to see if anything’s going on during Tinkerbell weekend.

Looking forward to your race recap!

From what I can tell, they do offer the Galloway meet-ups on the west coast. I would definitely keep a look out on the Disney Blog, and on Twitter, since people will probably predict or hear when the announcement from runDisney gets posted.

Thanks for your comment! :)
